As we all have our own individual passions, strengths, and what I like to call inspirational motives, we sometimes have to look in the mirror and ask ourselves, “Why am I here?” and “Why is the world better because of me?”
In today’s world, it’s rare to be able to combine our passions with our jobs. I truly believe that it’s the responsibility of companies today to create a culture and for employees to find a culture that fits them and can utilize their strengths. If those two things don’t align, how can success be possible?
Business plans have always been built around mission statements and visions, but how often do those impact the culture of the company? How often are they forgotten?
I believe, with all of my heart, that as soon as a company loses sight of its culture or even compromises on its values, it fails. As obvious as that sounds, it is amazing how many decisions, both big and small, have to be made everyday that have an impact. It is no wonder so many companies fail.
So how does this impact motivate you to work? In my opinion, no matter what your role is in a company, you work for something. If you’re leading a team you have to ask yourself two important questions: “Do I live out my company’s value in my own life?” and “Do we have a company culture that truly show cases our values?” If you support a team, you have to ask yourself: “Do my company’s values match mine?” and “Am I adding value to the world with what I’m doing?”
We, here at Sequoia, have been blessed with a great team and a culture that focuses on love, passion, and integrity. Although we are a growing company, we are constantly finding ways to ensure we that we don’t lose sight of our values. I guarantee you – we still fail at times. We love those we work with, we have passion behind what we do, and we approach life with integrity. If we can keep that as our company anthem, how can any of us fail?
So, what do you work for? We would love to hear your thoughts, comments, and any ideas this might have generated.
